ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s aide Silas Jakakimba is reportedly being sought by the Zimbabwean police authorities in connection to the violent protests that took place in Harare last week.
The Sunday Mail reported that the police were looking for Jakakimba for allegedly entering Zimbabwe illegally and for alleged links to the violent protests that have seen the army kill at least four protesters.
Odinga’s aide was said to have been part of the inner circle of MDC Alliance’s presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa.
After reports of being sought by police, the former Homa Bay Senatorial aspirant expressed shock at the reported investigation, but reiterated his support for Chamisa.
Close relationship
“Is this even REMOTELY possible? , however, remains an inspiration to many upcoming young leaders across Africa and beyond. As we pray for ONE, United, Peaceful Africa, we salute him,” Jakakimba said in a tweet.
The MDC enjoys a close political relationship with ODM.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week declared the incumbent, Emmerson Mnangagwa, as the winner of the disputed presidential elections with 50.8 percent of votes cast to Chamisa’s 44,3 percent.
The MDC candidate has protested the outcome as flawed and promised to move to court to challenge the results.
Opposition supporters have taken to the streets where they have been met with brutal force from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF).
