Babu Owino released from police custody after Sakaja intervened

Babu Owino freed after spending 2 nights in police custody

The legislator was seized from Parliament buildings on Friday and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday to answer to assault charges.

It took the intervention of Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja who was accompanied by other leaders to have the legislator granted freedom.

Sakaja who made his way to Parklands police station on Sunday afternoon where Owino was held took a swipe at the security agencies, stating that “No political leader should be arrested unlawfully because of his political party be it NASA or Jubilee,”.

“This is a petty offence.. I don’t agree with it and I will stand for him. I am staying here until Babu is released.”
