ODM MPs afraid to meet DP Ruto after Raila warning
Raila reacts after ODM MPs supported Ruto
Ruto has been taking advantage of the peace deal to meet and woo Opposition leaders into supporting his 2022 presidential bid.
The move has forced Odinga to warn his MPs against supporting or campaigning for Ruto ahead of the 2022 general election.
The NASA leader is reported to have threatened to punish ODM MPs who will join Ruto's 2022 campaign.
The warning worked on Monday when all the NASA MPs from Nairobi declined an invitation to a meeting called by the Deputy President at his Karen residence.
The DP's meeting had been expected to address developmental matters in the city but ODM MPs skipped the meeting for fear that it would be interpreted as support for Ruto.
Last week, Ruto visited the Coast region for an official tour which turned political as a section of Opposition leaders endorsed his 2022 presidential bid.
Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa who has been a die-hard Odinga supporter surprised many with promise to support the Deputy President in the 2022 general election.
The Star on Thursday reported that Jumwa had been warned ODM would remove her from the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) if she continued campaigning for the Jubilee Deputy Leader.
“Jumwa was told that the PSC slot could be handed over to Mishi Mboko [Likoni MP] who has been more loyal to ODM,” stated a source privy to the matter
