Unknown details of Uhuru-Raila deal emerge

The meeting between Uhuru and Raila caught many Kenyans off guard including the NASA principals themselves.

The two leaders surprised Kenyans including those close to them after their meeting last Friday at Harambee House where they resolved to set aside their political differences for the sake of national unity and urged Kenyans to move forward together as a united people.

It has now emerged that Odinga has since Friday not talked to the other NASA principals, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka.

The three claimed that Odinga unilaterally went ahead with meeting the president without informing or consulting them.

The principals have planned a meeting on Monday where they expected Odinga to explain his surprise deal with Kenyatta.

Tanzania trip

However reports have emerged that Odinga will snub the scheduled meeting as he is expected to travel to Tanzania to instead meet with President John Magufuli.

Despite this, Senator Wetangula insisted that the principals meeting will go ahead with or without Odinga.

“We agreed to meet, we have set a venue and agreed on the time. Whether he turns up or not, the meeting will go on because we have a quorum of three. He (Raila) has not talked to me or Musalia. I am not sure whether he has spoken to Kalonzo,” Wetang’ula was quoted by The Standard.

Betrayal

He said the other principals felt betrayed by Odinga by leaving them out and they might just be forced to chart their own political future without the ODM party leader.

Mudavadi in a commentary on The Star insisted Odinga met Kenyatta as an individual and not as a NASA representatitve.

"I can therefore categorically state that the meeting was between two individuals. It does not bear the imprint of the NASA Summit. It was not processed through the NASA structures. Indeed, nowhere does the MoU allude to or mention NASA, including the signing off. Instead, the two repeatedly invoke their names and personally commit to each other and not to all Kenyans," Mudavadi wrote.
