Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has been given a 14-day ultimatum to arrest Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
The Senate, through its Parliamentary Accounts Committee, made the order after Mutyambai failed to execute a warrant of arrest against the Machakos county boss.
Mutua had defied three summons by the Senate - prompting PAC Chairman Senator Moses Kajwang to issue orders requiring Mutyambai to present the Governor for a session slotted today (Tuesday).
On Tuesday morning, neither Mutyambai nor Mutua showed up for the committee sessions - forcing Kajwang to issue a 14-day ultimatum.
"If the IG fails to arrest the Governor within four days, we will direct the DPP to launch criminal investigations against the two of them in line with the law as affirmed by the High Court in a similar case against Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya," Kajwang stated.
He added that the Senate would consider freezing allocations to Machakos County until Mutua complies with its summons.
