Witnesses recounted that Everlyn’s husband identified as Kevin Otieno Ochieng stormed into her class and angrily demanded for his wife’s phone which she surrendered.
He went out with the phone and is believed to have gone through it before returning a few minutes later and descending on his wife, giving her a thorough beating before drawing a knife and stabbing her on the neck and the left cheek.
Everlyn’s students at St Paul’s Gulf Academy were left traumatized after witnessing the whole drama in shock.
The mother of two revealed that her husband had threatened to kill her on several occasions before the 17 September 2019 attack.
She was rushed to Bondo Sub-County Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
Reports indicate that the perpetrator was arrested but released shortly afterwards in unclear circumstances.
Kenya Women Teachers Association (Kewota) has condemned the attack, terming it a barbari and inhuman act that was traumatising to teachers and pupils.
Kewota Chairperson Dorothy Muthoni demanded for swift action to be taken against Mr. Ochieng and urged couples to explore other ways of resolving their misunderstandings rather than resorting to violence, suicide or murder.
“Couples should find amicable solutions to domestic problems without resorting to violence or murder,” she said.
