Kenya Police offers a Sh14m bounty on seven most wanted terror suspects

Following intensified efforts to counter terrorist plots, the police said the seven were identified as having been behind recent terror attacks that led to the killing of Kenyans and destruction of properties.

The Kenyan Police have released a list of seven wanted terror suspects on its watch list.

Kenya has in the past year witnessed a resurgence of terror attacks by suspected Al Shabaab militia on their troops in Somalia under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) as well as some parts in the North Eastern region of the country.

The seven listed suspect are:

According to the Kenyan police, the terrorists are believed to be operating between Kenya and Somalia and have been involved in a number of terror attacks especially in Mandera County.

Coordinated attacks

“We have reason to believe that these suspects were instrumental in the planning and execution of attacks at Bisharo Lodge in October 2016, Jabane Hotel attack in January 2017 and Arabia Police Camp earlier this month,” the statement from the police signed by its spokesman George Kinoti read in part.

12 people were killed in the Bisharo attack while a police reservist died in a similar incident at the Jabane Hotel.

During the Arabia Police Camp attack, the suspected Al Shabaab militants destroyed communication masts and made away with Biometric Voter Registration kits. The militia later denied they had stolen the equipment.

The police further urged the public to promptly report their sightings should they come across them.

A two million shillings cash reward will be offered to anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of any of the suspects.

Despite Kenya’s terror threat level remaining high, the state security agencies maintain that they have taken all the necessary preventive and precautionary measures against any threats.
