Members of the public have been invited to join President Uhuru Kenyatta for a special mass to be held on Thursday morning at the Holy Family Basilica, Nairobi.

President Kenyatta and his family will be marking the 41st anniversary of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's death.

A brief from State House outlined that all are welcome to join in the commemoration mass beginning at 10 a.m.

It is customary for President Uhuru Kenyatta and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta to lead dignitaries in laying wreaths at Mzee's monument during the day.

Fun moments during Mzee Jomo Kenyatta memorial

During the 2018 commemoration, President Kenyatta brought up unexpected discussions to lighten up the room.

"Na wewe Sonko, mama anauliza wapi pension kwa sababu mzee aliwafanyia kazi (And you Sonko, my mother has been asking where is the pension since her husband worked for you),” the head of state stated amid uproar.

The President also shared a light moment with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the ODM party leader narrated how Mzee Jomo spoke to him in German during their first face-to-face meeting.
