Man, 47, to die for killing father

Blessing traced his father to the farm and attacked him with cutlass and an axe, killing him in the process and fled the town.

Two men have reportedly murdered a three month old baby

The state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, who handed out the sentence, said the evidence before the court showed that he was guilty of murder as charged.

Daramola held that the prosecution had proved the case of murder beyond all reasonable doubts, hence, the guilty verdict.

The judge said “the convict should be hanged by the neck until life goes out of him.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trial lasted for about seven years.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi, who prosecuted the case, told the court that the slain father had six wives and eighteen children.

Ajayi said the deceased had shared his property, including parcels of land, among his children.

Apparently not happy with the share allotted to him, Blessing traced his father to the farm and attacked him with cutlass and an axe, killing him in the process and fled the town.

The prosecutor said Blessing’s siblings were shocked to meet their father in a pool of his own blood and took him to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

According to the prosecutor, the convict turned himself in after six months of hiding.

He said the police later arraigned him on one-count charge of murder.

Ajayi said the convict made a confessional statement to the police and admitted killing his father in the hut.

While Ajayi represented the state, Mr Morakinyo Ogele, a human rights activist, represented the convict.
