The Cabinet Secretary, Youth and Gender Affairs wants to Ban Jeff Koinange Live!

In a statement sent to newsrooms, The Cabinet Secretary, Ms Sicily Kariuki called upon the Media Council of Kenya to step in and have the offensive interview pulled down.

Ms. Karuki, has condemned what she termed as the trivialisation of the crime of rape during the Jeff Koinange live show, aired on Wednesday this week.

Ms. Kariuki stated that there was need to take quick and decisive measures to protect victims from the use of abusive and derogatory language.

During the show, Canadian based lawyer and former advisor to the Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, Miguna Miguna and Nairobi businesswoman, Easter Passaris who are both contesting for the Nairobi Governor’s seat degenerated into a shouting match.

Miguna Miguna during the show said “you are was so beautiful everybody wants to rape you” referring to Easter Passaris.

Miguna however later on, came out and explained that the remarks were done sarcastically to refer to ‘Passaris life situation’, after she has accused some rich and influential individuals of rape and sexual assault.

Miguna also claimed that while the show was on break (off air), Passaris called him a rapist.

Ms Kariuki has taken issue that, an aspirant for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat (Miguna Miguna) was allowed to carry on with dehumanizing remarks against his fellow guest, Esther Passaris was unacceptable.

She also took issue with subsequent comments on social media that she says “sought to normalise this unacceptable and dehumanising act.”

“The abusive and derogatory language used on KTN’s Jeff Koinange Live and the release of behind-the-scenes footage from the show to the wider public, sought to extend the victim shaming – irrespective of our political leaning the crime of rape is unacceptable,”  read part of the statement as reported by Capital FM.
