Matatu crew are becoming a huge threat to the safety and welfare of the passengers who use public service vehicles. When they are not being driven with wanton disregard of traffic rules, matatus are turned to havens of criminal activities conducted by the crew against the passengers.
According to the man’s sister who brought the issue to limelight by sharing the story, his brother was attacked by one of the touts who tried to to steal his phone.
The man now identified as Bernard Chege resisted and confronted the tout who then viciously attacked him.
The tout big Chege’s lips and cut off a significant chunk off. Bernard was let in pain and bleeding profusely. The Matatu’s driver, its conductor and the tout then threw him off the bus after stealing his phone and money.
The incident happened in the late hours of the night as the Bernard had boarded the matatu at around 11pm.
He managed to get the Matatu’s number plate and reported the incident to a police station before getting medical attention at a hospital. Here is the narration by the victim
