Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni will make history on Thursday while in Kenya as he would be traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi on the Standard Gauge Railway.

The Uganda's Head of State will be addressing a public lecture Kenyatta University in Nairobi on Friday before flying out.

"...you (Pres. Kenyatta) have given me the honour of being the first President to ride on the new railway; I will put it in my album and show it to all the Ugandans," President Museveni said.

Construction of SGR

President Museveni hailed Kenya for the construction of SGR and even joked about turning transport to the railway and leaving the roads for drunkards.

He further stated that it will be easy to transport by SGR from Mombasa to Kampala when its construction is finally complete.

"In the coming years, a lot of cargo will move from the roads to the railway and fuel will move from the roads to the pipelines," President Museveni stated.

The visiting Head of State will attend the Kenya-Uganda business forum where the non-tariff barrier issues, including cargo clearance time, and the bottlenecks on the Northern Corridor are expected to be on the agenda.

The two Presidents also discussed the movement across the two countries borders and resolved to have more border points.

"The free movement of people, I'm very glad his excellency has agreed about more border crossings... we had a very good discussion and agreed to have more border points... I appeal to East Africans to use the legal points because now you will not have any excuse," President Museveni stated.
