DP Ruto, Waiguru clash over NYS scandal

Deputy President William Rutoi and former Devolution Cabinet Secretary over the weekend were involved in a bitter exchange of words over the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

Ruto told Waiguru to take responsibility for the scandal as she was the one in charge of the NYS project when the millions of shillings were stolen.

The DP was categorical saying that it was Waiguru who presided over the scandal and warned that the government would ensure the culprits are prosecuted.

“Her hairdreser admitted to having carried NYS money in sacks like potatoes and yet she (Waiguru) wants to pretend that she has no connection to the NYS scandal,” Ruto said.

“Public money has been lost and those who are responsible should take responsibility, and as a government we will take action against anyone found culpable,” he added.

Waiguru's response

However, in a statement sent to newsrooms, Waiguru has told Ruto provide evidence that links her to the NYS scandal.

She questioned Ruto’s recent interest in the case and his resolve to address the issue in public gatherings.

“All I did is appear before the PAC after I was summoned and gave my version of events supported by facts and evidence. If the Deputy President has facts to assist in this or any other investigation the appropriate thing to do would be to appear before the EACC, CID, or PAC like I and other witnesses did and present the evidence,” she said.

Last week, Waiguru appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) where she named Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet and close ally Senator Kipchumba Murkomen as part of those who benefited from the NYS millions.
