Kabogo once again controversially told Ruto not to expect automatic support from the Mt Kenya region in his bid to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta as president in 2022.

The Kiambu Governor made a similar statement last year that was harshly criticised by leaders from both the Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions.

According to The Nation, a clip shared widely on social media, showed Kabogo saying should not expect “our” support unless there is development in the region.

Kabogo also said that the Kenyatta family, which has held key government and political positions since independence, was coming to an end.

Kabogo lost the Jubilee primaries to Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu in April and has revealed that Ruto was the main factor behind his defeat.

Kabogo who is now running as an independent candidate for the Kiambu gubernatorial contest in August, said Ruto plotted his downfall in a bid to silence him.

He cautioned his constituents that it would be suicidal for them to elect Waititu as their next governor.

“I’m not being fought because of you (Kiambu people), but by those who want seats in 2022, but I will face them head-on and I’m not keeping quiet this time round. I’ve made a similar stand before when I said we will not give this person (Ruto) the seat just like that and I’m saying it again. We will not support him unless we see development,” Kabogo said.

The day of the Jubilee primaries, Kabogo said a day to the nominations, he went to the JP headquarters at Pangani and handed a memorandum to Ruto, National Elections Board chairman Andrew Musangi and JP secretary general Raphael Tuju.

“I pushed through, of course I am not a pushover, and managed to see the Deputy President and he promised me the presiding officers would be changed. Tuju and Musangi did not fix the mess but aggravated it. There are rumours that I’m a threat to someone. Someone does not want Kabogo as governor in next five years,” he said.
