Addressing mourners in Markwet, Odinga disclosed that he had no differences with Rift Valley leaders and had in fact nurtured most of them, helping them launch their political careers.
“Murkomen is my political child. I stayed with him and found out he is a brilliant political mind. I gave him a job to teach Kenyans about devolution,” Odinga said.
Raila also revealed that as ODM’s influence in the Rift Valley was on the decline, Murkomen approached him over his political future.
“He told me he would not win if he vied on an ODM ticket so I told him to join URP (Uniter Republican Party)."
The advice paid off as Murkomen won the Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial race on a URP ticket, marking his entry into elective politics.
However, as the two took different paths political paths, their relationship took a different turn with Murkomen frequently lacking kind words for the NASA chief, something that ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna pointed out.
Sifuna urged Murkomen to start saying some kind words to Odinga since he had agreed to work with Uhuru.
The recent cease fire between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga has seen politicians from across the political divide warm up to each other in a rare show of brotherhood.
The leaders were speaking during the burial of ODM national deputy treasurer Ogla I’rani's father, Willy Kalebus.
