Why Moi could be taken to court for jailing Matiba

Matiba's wife has made a special request

This is after Senators asked the government to arrest and prosecute the people who were responsible for Matiba’s torture and detention.

Senators from across the divide noted that it was not too late for the state to give justice to the Matiba family.

Leader of Majority in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen supported calls for justice to the Matiba family, adding that the education curriculum will need to be changed to reflect the contributions made by those who participated in the Second Liberation.

Minority Leader Senator James Orengo (Siaya) and Minority whip Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni) heaped praise on the fallen veteran, saying he put the country first and therefore it was time for his family to get justice.

Matiba and his wife have not shied away from blaming Moi for the financial and health challenges that resulted from the politician’s detention and torture.

While in police detention, Matiba suffered a stroke but was kept in the police cells for a whole week – only getting pain killers provided by the government doctor.

It took a direct order from President Moi to get him to the Nairobi Hospital.
