Details of the Nigerian man Binyavanga Wainaina is set to marry

Kenya’s first openly-gay author Binyavanga Wainaina is set to marry next year.

Congratulations are in order for Kenya’s first

Binyavanga disclosed that he proposed two weeks ago and the two will tie the knot in South Africa where the law allows for same-sex marriage.

“I knelt down and asked my love for his hand in marriage two weeks ago. He said YES. We will be married in South Africa early next year. I am beside myself with excitement that he has agreed to spend the rest of his life with me.” He tweeted.

The author went on to describe his husband-to-be as ‘gentle’ with the ‘most gorgeous heart’. He disclosed that our future in-law is Nigerian and they have dated on and off since 2012.  We also learned that his husband to be will be studying next year in South Africa and the two will be relocating there.

He added that his Nigerian lover said yes to his proposal almost immediately. “He said yes, nearly immediately. He is Nigerian. We will be living in South Africa, where he will be studying next year. We will get married there, early next year. We will have a reception for Kenyans in Nairobi sometime next year too.”

“Nothing has surprised me more than coming to love this person, who is gentle and has the gorgeous heart. I consider myself hugely lucky that he loves me and I have only recently fallen in love with him, but we have known each other and have been dating on and off since 2012.” He disclosed.
