Newly elected Bumula MP Mabonga Mwambu has surprised his constituents after he switched political allegiance a few days after entering the National Assembly.

Mabonga initially sought the Ford Kenya ticket but lost in a disputed party nominations exercise.

The legislator then vied as an Independent candidate but campaigned with the promise that he would firmly remain in the NASA family.

However, a section of his constituents was on Tuesday surprised to see Mabonga among Western regional leaders who met and endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee party.

Some of the local political groups went ahead and threatened to have their MP recalled.

The Bumula leader, however, defended himself indicating that many of those criticizing him did not defend him when he was unfairly rigged out of the Ford Kenya nominations by his party leader Moses Wetangula.

“They have never bothered to hear my story concerning what I went through during the Ford Kenya primaries, no one apologized, but instead the party leader came to de-campaign me. Whereas I put up a vigorous campaign day and night thinking the party would conduct free and fair primaries, the ballot boxes meant for my strongholds were safely kept at the party leader's house under the custody of his nephew with strict instructions on who to give the ticket,” Mabonga noted on his Facebook page.
