DP Ruto defends Raila as Mudavadi lashes out at the NASA boss

DP Ruto comes to the rescue of Raila

Deputy President William Ruto has come to the defense of National Super Alliance boss Raila Odinga after a section of politicians accused him of betraying the struggle for reforms and electoral justice by uniting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Among those who accused Odinga for being selfish is Musalia Mudavadi who in an interview with The Standard, lashed out at Odinga for betraying “millions of Kenyans when he chose personal gain at the expense of his supporters”.

The DP however was of a different opinion, defending the president and the opposition boss against the rising accusations by disgruntled opposition supporters and legislators.

Addressing the public in West Pokot county on Saturday, the DP clarified that the deal between Odinga and Kenyatta is not a political stunt neither is it driven by political interests or selfish reasons as alleged by some politicians.

“We are uniting not because of political interests or for selfish reasons. We are uniting because of the unity of Kenyans so that we can focus on development to ensure the lives of Kenyans are transformed

“We have agreed as leaders to unite and work together as President Kenyatta and Raila have done,”

Mudavadi reportedly went ahead and termed the deal “as hollow, selfish and meaningless to NASA’s structured cause.”

The deal signed on 09 March 2018 caught politicians off-guard and sparked an angry reaction from a section of opposition politicians and supporters who termed it an act of betrayal by Odinga.

It also added cracks to the already weakened and fragile opposition coalition in what many believe could be the final blow to the coalition that is yet to recover from the division occasioned by the controversial ‘swearing in’ of Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’.
