Jubilee has suffered a major blow after a senator decamped from the party.

Isiolo Senator Mohamed Kuti ditched Jubilee just a day before the party primaries that begins on Friday, April 21.

Kuti did not give his reasons for quitting the party only saying that he will not take part in the party’s primaries.

“I am now tendering my resignation from Jubilee Party with immediate effect . Kindly delete my name from the party register and from the ballot papers for nominations immediately,” Kuti said in a letter addressed to the Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, Raphael Tuju.

Kuti has declared his intention to vie for the Isiolo County gubernatorial seat.

His gubernatorial candidature received a boost after the Somali community vowed to rally behind him.

The Somali council of elders agreed to back Dr Kuti and proposed Dr Abdi Ibrahim Issa to be his running mate.

The defection is a major blow for President Uhuru Kenyatta as it comes barely a day after current Isiolo Governor also ditched the Jubilee Party.

On Wednesday, Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo confirmed that he will not participate in Friday’s Jubilee nominations as he had decamped to the Party of Development and Reforms (PDR).

The governor said more than five other aspirants in Isiolo who were to seek Jubilee Party ticket have also moved to PDR.

The governor said he decided to jump ship because of concerns about Jubilee structures and transparency, especially at the county level, during the primaries.
