NASA forced to cancel crucial meeting

Emerging cracks have arisen within the coalition from the sharing of key house membership committees in Parliament.

The NASA coalition has been forced to cancel a retreat for its elected leaders set to take place this weekend.

According to the Wiper Party Chairman Kivutha Kibwana, the coalition was forced to postpone the crucial meeting to a later date in order to allow its elected leaders to participate in the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) polls scheduled for this weekend.

KEWOPA brings together all women parliamentarians drawn from across all political parties both elected and nominated in the Senate and National Assembly.

The NASA top leadership is keen on holding strategic talks with members of its affiliate parties amid emerging cracks on the coalition's unity arising from the sharing of key house membership committees in Parliament.

On Tuesday, a section of NASA MPs drawn mainly from Kisii and Nyamira Counties distanced themselves from the swearing in of Nasa leader Raila Odinga as the “‘People’s President” planned for January 30.

Speaking in parliament buildings the MPs, led Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka the NASA legislator said he recognises Uhuru Kenyatta as the President of the Republic of Kenya.

"The President of Kenya is Uhuru Kenyatta. If you look at the law, Uhuru was sworn in and handed the instruments of power. He is the head of the police and Commander in Chief of the Kenyan Defence Forces. He is in charge of the Kenyan currency and he is the President,"Onyonka declared.

Prior to the Former Prime Minister's "inauguration" on January 30, NASA is set to traverse 8 counties perceived Opposition strongholds and launch the People's assembly.

The coalition will also hold rallies in Kakamega, Narok, Mombasa and Busia before a culmination of a grand rally in Nairobi on the last Tuesday of January.
