Sharon Otieno's body was found dumped in forest

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has taken urgent action hours after the death of University Student Sharon Otieno.

DCI Kinoti has dispatched a special team of homicide detectives to Migori and and Homa Bay Counties to probe the murder of Sharon who had been abducted with Nation Media Group Journalist Barrack Oduor.

Sharon who is also said to have been pregnant was a second year student pursuing a degree in Medical Records and Information at Rongo University and was reported missing since Monday evening.

Her body was later found dumped in a forest hours later after the kidnapping.

DCI reacts

DCI boss George Kinoti said key statements had already been taken from some of the witnesses, including the journalist to firm up the case, before arrests can be made.

“A team has left Nairobi to undertake the investigation of the abduction and murder of the university student. We are taking the matter very seriously," Kinoti told Capital FM News.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado through his spokesman has denied claims linking him to the murder of Sharon.

Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe described the abduction as an attempted murder which ended up in the demise of Sharon.

He stated that investigations have been launched and those found culpable will face the full force of the law.

"As we mourn this untimely death, we take this opportunity to assure the public, and the media fraternity in particular that this matter will be expeditiously investigated and the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be made to face the full force of the law," the statement from the Government Spokesman read.
