He has just been elected Africa’s Chairperson of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission.
UNWTO Commission for Africa is platform African states use to express their grievances and concerns to the global body’s secretariat on all things tourism. It is also meant to ease contact between members of the commission.
UNWTO Commission is part of six regional commissions that were established in in 1975 as subsidiaries of the General assembly.
Najib who was elected at the body’s General Assembly that is currently taking place is Chengdu, China is expected to chair the African Commission for two years until the next General Assembly in 2019.
While he was appointed the CS for Tourism in 2015, Najib has invested most of his career into the Kenyan tourism industry.
His duty will be to push Africa’s tourism agenda on a global level for the next two years.
