Taita Taveta MP Naomi Shaban has made an abrupt turn around and re-joined the Jubilee Party days after quitting over alleged frustrations.

Shaban on Tuesday confirmed she will take part in the Jubilee Party nominations slated for April 21 where she is expected to face rising youthful politician Mike Banton.

It is reported Shaban was prevailed upon by the party’s top hierarchy not to abandon Jubilee after lengthy consultations on Monday.

Shaban who is also the National Assembly Deputy Majority leader now says her “quitting” Jubilee was merely a strategy meant to act as a protest message.

“I still support (President) Uhuru Kenyatta fully and if I were to make a final decision to quit I would have moved to a Jubilee affiliated party,” Shaban said.

Confident of winning

Dr Shaban said that the people of Taveta are the ones who demanded that she vies for the parliamentary seat and that she will still win whether the party gave her a a direct ticket or not.

“I have no problem with winning. I have won 3 times against the ODM wave in my area,” a confident Shaban exuded.

In a short three paragraph letter dated April 8, Shaban did not give a clear explanation for her resignation only stating that it was due to unavoidable circumstances.

“Due to unavoidable circumstances, I wish to resign from Jubilee Party. I will no longer be vying for the Taveta constituency seat under the Jubilee Party umbrella,” read the letter bearing her Constituency Office’s letter head and signature and addressed to the party Secretary General Raphael Tuju.

Shaban who was first elected to Parliament in 2002, is a long-time ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Coast region from when he was the KANU Chairman and later moved with him to the defunct The National Alliance (TNA).
