A photo of Nyali MP Mohammed Ali seemingly casting his vote against orders issued by NASA leader Raila Odinga has caused an uproar on social media.

The picture which was shared widely on the internet alludes that Mr. Ali, an investigative journalist, participated in the fresh presidential election despite directions by Mr. Odinga for Opposition supporters to stay away.

The MP dismissed the allegations that he participated in the elections noting that it was a ploy to malign him.

Ali accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho of being behind the evil plan.

"We are busy focusing on National issues na wewe una post vitu za kijinga. @HassanAliJoho na Abuu Joho sio Mungu kutulazimishia ndugu yao! Hii propaganda ya karubandika imepitwa na wakati," he said.

A spot check by Pulse Live Kenya established that the picture was taken during the August 8 General Election as Ali was voting at Khadija Primary School, Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.

The picture elicited an array of reactions with a section of the public describing Ali a traitor. At the same time, others showed their support for Ali.
