Conant was keen to improve his health, having been working to lower his blood pressure and cholesterol for a few years. The first thing he did was quit drinking alcohol. "I just did not like the way I felt," he told People . "I feel like one glass of wine would affect my sleep. And at a certain point - I am not as young as I used to be, obviously - but I feel like you wake up one day and say, How I feel is probably more important than a glass of wine.'"
Then in September 2018, Conant made the decision to cut out wheat from his daily diet. "Its ironic because I am a chef who is known for cooking pasta," he said."But I stopped eating wheat on a daily basis. Now I just pretty much do it for work. And I stopped eating GMOs.... As soon as I stopped eating wheat and GMOs, funny enough, I lost 12 pounds in ten days."
These days, an average meal for Conant consists of chicken or fish with salad or vegetables - but only between noon and 7pm, as he credits intermittent fasting (along with working out every day) with keeping the weight off. Intermittent fasting is a dieting plan favored by the likes of Terry Crews and Hugh Jackman which incorporates periods of fasting into your daily routine, with a fixed window for eating.
Conant added that he has been known to fall off the wagon and back into old habits, especially when he's on the road with work, but he tries not to punish himself too hard. "Im a big believer in moderation and not killing myself," he said. "So I feel like I do not overindulge. But I also do not beat myself up if I have a bowl of pasta. The next day is a new day."
