Netflixs newest miniseries, Hollywood, had a lot of buzz surrounding it before it even dropped. The latest television show in the Ryan Murphy empire , it tells the story of a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers trying to make it in the film industry in the years following World War II. With the exploration of gender inequality, sexuality and racism in the era of the Civil Rights movement, the show aims to paint a different vision and verson of Hollywood work during a time where secretsboth professional and personalwere held close to the vest.

Among a cast of Hollywood heavy hitters (Patti Lupone, Jim Parsons, Holland Taylor, and others), audiences are about to be introduced to a group of new actors that were handpicked by Murphy to join the series. Among them is a young man named Jeremy Pope, who plays escort/screenwriter Archie Coleman. Although audiences may not be familiar with him, here are a few things to know about the actor before you binge watch the show.

He was nominated in two Tony Awards categories in the same year.

In 2019 (the year he made his Broadway debut), Pope made theater history by becoming the sixth actor to receive nominations in two different categories in the same year. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Pharus in Choir Boy and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Eddie Kendricks in Aint Too Proud.

He has a budding music career.

Back in 2017, Pope tried his hand at music, entering the R&B world with his single . Music runs deep within us, he told at the time. I cant imagine a life in which it doesnt exist. He has since released singles Feel So Good and Wait For You. Pope also released various music covers, singing artists from Ed Sheeran to Maroon 5.

He feels a personal connection to his role in Hollywood .

In a recent interview with , Pope discussed how he felt a personal connection with Coleman throughout filming. It was easy to put myself in Archies shoes, he told the magazine. Being a black man in business, you sometimes wonder if theres enough room or space for you to be able to use your gift.

In a February interview with , Pope discussed how Murphy assured him that he would do the storyand the African-American/LGBTQ+ communitiesjustice. What I said to Ryan in our first meeting was, are there people of color in the writing room? he told the publication. Because youre talking about the '40s and '50s, so I need to make sure were sensitive to that. He assured me that he would take care of me and there would be people who looked like me around me.

[Hollywood] is really special and I cant wait for people to see it, and hopefully feel the love and the light in which we created it with.

He will be starring in another Ryan Murphy series.

In April 2020, it was announced by the that Pope will star in a recurring role in the upcoming third season of Pose, another show Murphy heads. In an interesting twist, Pope will take on the role of a straight character on a series about queer people of color in the New York dance scene during the AIDS epidemic.
