First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has broken silence after a long break from the public eye.

The First Lady has not spoken or been seen in public since December 17th when she, together with President Uhuru Kenyatta, hosted a Christmas party for orphaned children at State House.

On Thursday, news of Kenya Airways having direct flights to the United States prompted Margaret to issue a congratulatory message from her twitter page.

She tweeted, "Congratulations, - The Pride Of Africa ".

The First Lady has for the past five years been a central figure in her husband's administration, dedicating herself to various charity activities.

Margaret founded the Beyond Zero campaign which raises funds for maternity health. She has also become a leading champion against elephant hunting in the country.
