Visual activist Gideon Kibet, widely known as 'Kibet Bull' on social media, has confirmed his release from captivity weeks after being abducted by suspected state agents.
In a social media post on Monday evening, Kibet disclosed that he was freed and dropped off in Luanda Town, Vihiga County, between 3:00 am and 4:00 am.
Stranded and unsure of his next steps, he reportedly attended a local "disco matanga" (overnight funeral dance) before booking a bus ticket home.
This marks his first public communication since December 2024, when he went silent amid growing concerns from family, friends, and the public over his disappearance.
His release coincided with the discovery of four other missing young men, including his brother, Rony Kiplagat, who were also found alive on the same day.
Kiplagat was found in Kitale after being taken by suspected state agents outside the Kikuyu Seventh-day Adventist Church on December 21, 2024.
The abductions had sparked outrage among human rights groups, activists, and the online community, who demanded their safe return.
Known for his hard-hitting visual commentaries and advocacy for social justice, Kibet's work has often placed him at odds with authorities.
