Police are investigating a shocking incident in which a senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official was killed and her son left with serious injuries.
A police report on the incident details that two suspects who are still at large gained entry into Aisha Akinyi Abubakar’s home in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The suspected robbers were armed with a crowbar and a knife that was used to attack Akinyi and her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan.

The report further indicates that the suspected robbers gained entry by cutting the grills of the kitchen window.

They gained access to the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window while armed with crowbar and knife.
One of the suspects wore a mask during the attack in which the senior IEBC staffer and her son were attacked.
The suspect inflicted a deep cut on her head above the right eye, with her son also attacked and left with injuries on his head.
Items stolen during the incident
The suspected robbery incident saw several items stolen from the deceased’s home.

The deceased’s Samsung A15 mobile phone, her 65-inch Samsung TV, a sound system, an iPad, and a Samsung A21 phone are among the items stolen.
Injured son treated
Khasim who was left with severe injuries drove her injured mother to Premier Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
He, on the other hand was treated and is in stable condition but is yet to be discharged.

The son was treated and is yet to be discharged. He is in a stable condition.
A manhunt has been launched to arrest the suspects who are still at large with police also commencing investigations into the incident.
