Qatar’s leader arrives for historic State visit to Kenya [PHOTOS]

Kenya has signed several agreements and MoUs in various fields of cooperation with Qatar.

His Highness Sheikh Tamin Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar arrived this morning for the historic State Visit to Kenya.

There was pomp and colour as President Uhuru Kenyatta received the Emir of the State of Qatar who was accorded full military honours including a 21-gun salute at State House, Nairobi.

After the welcome ceremonies, the two leaders held a one-on-one talks before they led their delegations in bilateral talks aimed at bolstering cooperation between Kenya and Qatar.

The state visit by the Amir of Qatar provides an opportunity to strengthen the good relations existing between the two countries.

Kenya and Qatar established diplomatic relations on 28th December 2003. Kenya opened an Embassy in Doha, Qatar in 2010. Similarly, Qatar opened her resident Embassy in Nairobi in April 2012.

Kenya has signed several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in various fields of cooperation with Qatar.

During today’s state visit to Kenya by the Amir of Qatar, several MoUs and Agreements are expected to be signed and several others will be discussed.

The agreements to be signed are on Basic Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research as well as the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation.
