4 diplomats involved in a grisly road accident along Nairobi-Mombasa highway

Four diplomats from the Zambian and Botswana High Commissions were on Tuesday involved in a road accident that involved multiple vehicles at Lukenya bridge along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

Police reports indicated that the convoy the four were travelling in was involved in an accident after a head on collision between a lorry and the Toyota Prado belonging to the Zambian High Commission.

Zambian High Commissioner to Kenya Joseph Guttu suffered a fractured right leg with bruises on the left hand and Kama Wasa Kaluwe, who is a Zambian diplomat, sustained a fractured right leg and abdomen injuries.

Zambia’s ambassador to Kenya Ms Brenda Mudenda had chest and abdominal pains while Botswana’s ambassador to Kenya Duke Lephoko, had slight injuries on the left leg and above the knee.

The foreign envoys were heading back to the city from a meeting at Maanzoni Lodge in Machakos County when the incident occurred.

The vehicles of the diplomats that were massively damaged, were towed to Kyumbi Police station for inspection.

According to the police, the driver of the truck and Toyota Prado came out of the accident unhurt.

Five injured at Athi-River along Nairobi-Mombasa highway

On January 4, five people were injured in a head on collision accident at Athi river, Machakos County along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Police reported that the accident had been a result of the driver of the mini-bus trying to avoid a head on collision with a vehicle going in the opposite direction.

Athi River Police boss Sharma Wario had noted that the vehicle overturned after the driver lost control and veered off the road.

The injured had been rushed to Shalom Hospital.
