National Transport Safety Authority boss Francis Meja faces a possible 6 month jail term or a Sh200,000 fine after activist Okiya Omtatah filed an application with the High Court held in contempt of court.

This is due to the suspended curriculum for training and testing drivers.

Omtatah wants Meja jailed or have the fine deducted from his monthly salary.

According to Citizen TV Kenya, the activist claims that he served the respondents with the court orders suspending the curriculum on March 29, 2018, but the transport authority has deliberately and contemptuously failed and refused to comply with the said orders.

"The blatant refusal by NTSA to obey a valid court order is a contempt act and that the actions by the agency are offences against the administration of justice," said Omtatah.

"In imposing the directives and curricular which were suspended after an interparty hearing, the rule of law in Kenya stands to suffer irreparable harm and damage."
