Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has linked the recent abductions in the country to a secret unit, revealing what he claimed to be details of the masterminds of the abductions that have caused uproar.
According to Gachagua, the secret unit is not under the command of the IG of Police and carries out the controversial operations that are against the law.
Gachagua noted in a press address on Friday that the unit operates from the 21st floor of a building in Nairobi’s Central Business District and is led by a relative of a high-ranking government official.

He identified a Mr Abel as the leader of the secret unit, noting that is a cousin to a very senior official in the Kenya Kwanza government.

There is a unit that is not under the command of the IG of Police. There’s a building in Nairobi the 21st floor at the city center, where the unit is operating from, led by a certain Mr. Abel. Abel is a cousin to a very senior official in this government.
Gachagua's ultimatum
He gave an ultimatum that the unit should be dismantled, failure to which he would give the name of the building from where it allegedly operates, with full disclosure of the government official and his cousin.
And if this unit is not dismantled we will be giving the name of the building and the full names of that officer and his cousin. Your guess is as good as mine as to who is the commander of that unit.
He questioned Ruto’s prolonged silence on the abductions, insisting that most of the victims are those that have been seen to criticise the president.
Amid mounting pressure, President William Ruto finally addressed the abductions on Friday, December 27 at an event in Homa Bay county.
Gachagua proposes solution
Gachagua who was impeached in October 2024 slammed his former boss, stating that Kenyans are simply angry with Ruto’s administration and abduction is not the solution.
“Abducting young people is not a solution, you must address the cause of discontent. Why are people aggrieved with this administration?
)
Killing our children will not quell the anger of Kenyan people. The question the President must address is – why has everybody turned against you and the administration in only two years. That is what you need to interrogate instead of persecuting these children,”
Inspector General Douglas Kanja has distanced the National Police Service (NPS) from abductions that have been reported across the country, with pressure piling on the government to unmask those behind the abductions.
