Eyewitness accounts suggest the accident was caused by a trailer suspected to have rammed into other vehicles, including a Toyota Prado, an Ena Coach bus, and a matatu shuttle.

Traffic along the busy Narok-Maai Mahiu highway came to a standstill for hours as police worked to clear the wreckage and direct vehicles away from the accident site.
The government has intensified its crackdown on errant motorists, aiming to curb the alarming rise in traffic-related accidents.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicates that road fatalities have surged by over 8% this year, with 4,047 deaths recorded between January and November 2024, compared to 3,726 in the same period last year.
The total number of reported accidents has also increased significantly, with 20,369 incidents this year versus 19,262 last year.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and acting Interior CS Musalia Mudavadi said in December that law enforcement agencies must ensure that all public service vehicles (PSVs) are roadworthy and adhere to safety regulations, especially during the festive season which is marked by increased travel.

He instructed traffic police to verify that PSVs operate within their licensed routes and possess valid Road Service Licenses.
