Police are investigating an incident in which employees at Metro Plastics Kenya Ltd were allegedly locked up overnight at the factory premises on 14 March 2020 when a fierce fire broke out at the plastics manufacturing factory.

The fire is reported to have started on Saturday morning, with fire fighters who responded swiftly to save life and property having a difficult time putting it off as chemicals in the factory kept re-igniting it.

Addressing the press after the incident, Makadara Deputy County Commissioner Fred Ndunga ordered that the employer who is suspected of having locked in the workers be arrested and charged.

"The firefighters arrived quickly but the problem is that with chemical exposure, the fire reappears after extinguishing," he said.
