Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has suffered a humiliating defeat in Ugenya by elections.
The contest saw Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) Party’s David Ochieng floor ODM’s Christopher Karan despite spirited campaigns led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in support of the ODM candidate.
Ochieng overcame stiff competition from ODM’s Christopher Karan who was backed by veteran politician and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The closely fought contest saw Ochieng garner 18,730 votes with Karan coming in second with 14,507 votes.

Pockets of violence, alleged voter bribery and faulty kits marred the Ugenya parliamentary by-election, amid low voter turnout with three people implicated in an attack on a voter charged at Ukwala law courts on Friday (yesterday).
A war of words and counter accusations ensed during the contest which attracted four contestants with the candidates blaming each other over malpractice as voting continued late into the afternoon.
Karan and Ochieng, took a swipe at the IEBC over delays in opening some stations.
Drama ensued after Thirdway Alliance’s Brian Omondi failed to cast his vote because he is a registered voter in Nairobi with the party’s Secretary General Fred Okango issuing a statement terming the by-election a fraud.
