Why ODM boss wants CS Amina Mohamed to resign

Amina was moved from Foreign Affairs early this year, to the Education Ministry.

ODM boss for Political Affairs and Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi is now calling for the resignation of Education CS Amb Amina Mohamed.

The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, has said that the CS has messed up the education docket, after the exit of Dr Fred Matiang'i.

The legislator mentioned that the CS, in the wake of the prolonged lecturers' strike, has failed to meet the expectations of Kenyans unlike when she was in the Foreign Affairs ministry.

"We will not allow the minister to mess with the education sector. If she can’t manage it, she better ask for assistance then quit,” the MP said.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

He added: "Her performance so far is below par. The strike has persisted for the months she has been in office. Sadly, there is no indication that the strike is ending any soon.”

The sentiments by Wandayi comes on the heel of a bloated meeting, after the Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) on Monday dismissed the 1.75 per cent basic salary increase for four years and zero per cent raise on house allowance deal.

The counter-offer that was tabled by the Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum (IPCCF) negotiating team chairman Isaac Mbeche further indicated that lecturers will get an annual basic salary increment of 0.435 per cent.
