Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has made a bold declaration that has threatened to break up NASA heading into 2022.
Joho has said that either he or Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi would vie for the Presidency in 2022 subject to an agreement between them.
“After Joho is sworn-in, we will go for a retreat and the main discussion will be on who will go for the seat. From the retreat, we shall come out with one voice which we shall relay to the people of Kilifi and the Coast region as a whole," Kingi announced during his swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

Joho echoed Kingi's sentiments saying they will both be in government in 2022.
Earlier this week, Ford Kenya leader and NASA principal Moses Wetangula also threw his hat into the ring after declaring that he will stand for presidency in 2022 after Raila Odinga officially retires from politics.
Speaking at a Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Bungoma town, Wetang’ula said after Raila announced that he will not vie again, he is in a better position to replace him.
“I sacrificed my ambition to support Raila in the just-concluded election, despite having launched my presidential bid for the sake of opposition’s unity. I will be going for the top seat in the next General Election,” he said.
According to an MoU signed between NASA’s affiliate parties, ODM leader, Raila Odinga was expected to serve for one term and hand over the mantle to his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper Democratic Movement.
Following the August 8 polls which the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Uhuru Kenyatta President-elect, NASA leader Raila Odinga declared he will never be a presidential candidate again.
"I’m not going to be a candidate again. We just want Kenyans to know what happened, what the whole world is not understanding is happening," Raila declared.
