Trump's strong message to Uhuru

The message comes after Uhuru's statement where he reached out to Raila.

The United States has congratulated Uhuru Kenyatta on his re-election as the President of Kenya following the August 8 polls.

In a statement sent out by the White House Press Office, the US also commended Kenyans on the successful conclusions of the elections.

“We commend the dedication of candidates, officials and the public to upholding a peaceful, fair and transparent contest, and we welcome the statements by international and domestic observer missions affirming the credibility of elections,” the statement read in part.

However the US said it was troubled by reports that some demonstrations that had turned violent and called on Kenyans to reject violence and resolve disputes in accordance with the Kenyan Constitution and the rule of law.

“We welcome calls by President Kenyatta for peace and national unity. We urge all Kenyans to continue building the country,” reads the statement.

The US also re-affirmed that it will continue to partner with Kenya to secure a prosperous and peaceful future for both nations.

President Kenyatta on Monday once again reached out to NASA leader Raila Odinga extending him an olive branch, urging him to use legal means to express his grievances, including peaceful demonstrations if he chooses not to go to court.

However, Odinga has rejected the notion of going to court as he did in 2013 and called on his supporters to avoid going to work on Monday as they await the next cause of action which the NASA leader said he will announce on Tuesday.
