Meru Governor Peter Munya on Monday announced that he had decamped to the National Super Alliance (NASA), adding that he would also campaign for Raila Odinga.
The surprise announcement caught many of Munya’s supporters by surprise given that he had on several occasions denied supporting the opposition.
Fresh details have now emerged on the intricacies that led to Munya’s defection.
According to Party of National Unity (PNU) Chairman John Kamama, the former Meru Governor decided to support NASA after he was fired as party leader and replaced by former President Mwai Kibaki.
Kamama claimed that Munya had moved to NASA as an individual adding that PNU had struck off his name from the list of party members.
Although PNU has in the past decade lost influence, it is regarded as occupying a special place in the country's history having won Kenya's third President his secon term.
