After arriving in Thika with co-principal Musalia Mudavadi, Odinga convened a meeting outside Thika Stadium and began addressing the residents.

Just as he had started, the locals and other youth who ha arrived began chanting Jubilee slogans making it difficult for Odinga to speak. However, its Odinga's proverb that irked the Kiambu residents after stating, "Hiyo ni macho tu ya chura; haiwezi kuzuia ng’ombe kunywa maji."Loosely translated, "The noise by Jubilee supporters was meaningless and he would continue his address."Minutes after the statement, the Jubilee supporters hurled stones at the former prime minister and stoned his motorcade. Odinga's bodyguards intervened and whisked him and Mudavadu to safety as they shot in the air to disperse the rowdy crowd.
