Ex-KTN Editor put in jail over Sh2.8 Million Mercedes Benz

The case has taken a new twist

Former KTN editor Aaron Ochieng has been jailed over a Sh2.8 Million Mercedes Benz  he allegedly stole from his colleague Joy Doreen Biira.

Ochien’g, had been accused of stealing Ms Biira’s Mercedes Benz worth Sh2.8 million at the company’s parking lot on Mombasa Road on December 23, 2016.

On Tuesday the media personality was remanded after he failed to settle a debt amounting to Sh1 million as agreed earlier.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, it emerged that Ochieng was yet to clear the amount as promised.

According to an earlier ruling, the two had agreed to settle the case out of court, after he pleaded guilty and promised to pay Ms Biira Sh1 million and the rest in instalments.

The court ordered that the former journalist only be released after he pays Sh550, 000, he had already deposited Sh350,000 in court to secure his release during the first hearing of the case.

“The accused should remain in custody until he pays the new amount,” said Andayi.

Stolen property

On July 4, 2017 Ochieng was charged at the Milimani Law Courts with a count of handling stolen property. He apologized to Doreen before requesting the court to allow for an out-of-court settlement of the case.

In September 2017, the two journalists failed to settle the matter out of court and the matter was scheduled for hearing

Appearing before trial magistrate Peter Ooko, they were granted another chance of settling the matter. This was after he made the promise of paying the amount.
