Over the last few days since Joho’s D- was hang for all and sundry, people have been curious about whether Uhuru Kenyatta graduated or dropped out of college.
The school confirmed that the president graduated in 1985 with a degree in Economics & Political Science but declined to give information on how he performed or his temperament.
"Thanks for your question. We can confirm that Uhuru Kenyatta graduated in 1985 with a degree in economics & political science."
"Sorry, we do not provide personal information about our current or former students, faculty or staff." They tweeted declining to provide personal information when probed further.
But thanks to an interview Nation did with Author Donald Loring Brown who met Uhuru in 1984 we got to know how Uhuru was like in school.
“He was kind of shy but very kind. He was a good student. I cannot say he was popular but the people who knew him liked him. Black students weren’t favoured. They banded together, ate together. I ate meals with them four or five times a week. I first met him in a dining hall with other students.” He told the paper.
We recently came across a photo of Uhuru Kenyatta on his graduation day where he was hanging out with his mum, grinning from ear to ear.
Historian Odhiambo Levin Opiyo confirmed he graduated by showing his name on that year's graduation list:
His name also appeared in the college’s official yearbook.
Apart from Uhuru, other notable Alumni from this college include; Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz, Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown, The Prince of Monaco-Francisco G. Flores, former President of El Salvador-David D. Freudenthal, George Papandreou the former Prime Minister of Greece and Pulitzer Prize winner Debby Applegate.
