The Matrix Box office performance

The Matrix was highly successful, earning over Sh50 billion worldwide on a modest budget of Sh 6 billion.

The sequels had a much larger budget of Sh16 billion each; Reloaded was also a big commercial success, earning almost Sh81billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, a title which it held for 13 years until it was surpassed by the film Deadpool.

The Matrix Revolutions had the world's first simultaneous release across major cities all over the world which for the first time in history included both a release in China and a release in IMAX theatres.

Its five-day opening at Sh22 billion broke the previous record but ultimately the film made Sh47 billion, a little less than the original.
