Wema Sepetu Matatani
Wema who is a member of President Magufuli’s Party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), took to her social media to share a poster condemning planned demonstrations in Tanzania by members of the opposition party.
“Kuwa Mzalendo!! Epuka Maandamano, Tanzania haiongozwi kwa maneno yamitandao ya kijamii” reads the poster shared by Wema Sepetu
The planned demonstration in Tanzania are aimed at protesting against the new Internet regulations that have been introduced by the Magufuli’s government.
The Tanzanian government has introduced Sh93,000 fee for those wanting to have an online blog, giving the authorities unprecedented control over the internet.
Bloggers to pay for Internet
The government now requires all bloggers to pay the annual fee and register before they begin publishing material.
It's not just bloggers affected by the provisions, but online radio stations, online streaming platforms, online forums, social media users and internet cafes.
