Nigerian teen wins over Ksh 14 million after emerging winner of The Voice UK

Whoa, na hii serikali ya Uhunye, man that would be a dream come true! One lucky teen, Ruti Olajugbagbe who actually happens to be Nigerian, was announced the winner of The Voice UK 2018, beating her close competitor, Donel Mangena.

The Voice is a popular singing competition where contestants must first go through a blind audition where the judges, who comprise of famous singers listen to the contestants without seeing their faces and if they like the vocal ability of the performer, they hit a buzzer that then turns the seat to reveal the contestant. If more than one judge turns, the contestant must choose the judge she/he wants to work with. The competition then takes the contestants through intensive coaching and head to head performances and in the end, there’s only one winner.

Ruti, a part-time student of Youth Creation Performing Arts School in Stanford-le-Hope and care giver emerged the winner after singing Dreams by The Cranberries, which will be released as her debut single. Her coach during the competition was Tom Jones.

Ruti won 100,000 pounds, (Approx. 14,200,000 KES) and a record deal with Republic Records.

The 18-year-old lives with her mother and little brother. A huge congrats to her.
