Sauti Sol, Kaligraph Jones emerge winners at AFRIMA awards as Nikita Kering makes history in Lagos

The 6th edition of the All Africa Music Awards, (AFRIMA) went down on 23rd November at the Eko Convention Centre of Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos Nigeria and Kenya did not disppoint with notable artistes beating stiff competition to bag awards.

The glamorous event which is designed to promote the distinct rich African music worldwide was attended by music stars and dignitaries across the globe.

17 year old Nikita Kering won the Best female artiste in Eastern Africa with the song ‘Happy with you’ beating Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Queen Darleen (Tanzania), Nandy (Tanzania), Rosa Ree (Tanzania) Sheebah (Uganda), Maua Sama (Tanania) and Irene Namatovu (Uganda).

She also won an award for Revelation of the African continent!

Our very own Kenyan Rock band, Rash band, scooped the Best African Rock with their track 'Grave robbers'. The beat Mohombi (Congo), Jeremy loops (South Africa), Jano Band (Ethiopia), DAPHIL Colag (Nigeria), Cobhams Asuquo (Nigeria) Cairoke (Egypt) and Ahmed Soultan (Morocco).

Khaligraph Jones aka Papa Jones aka Mr Omollo was named as the Best male artiste in East Africa with the track Leave me alone. Other nominees on the list were Boy Black (Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Harmonize (Tanzania), Mbosso (Tanzania), Nyashinski (Kenya), Rayvanny (Tanzania) and Shyn (Madagascar)

Burna Boy from Nigeria was crowned as the Artiste of the year beating Wizkid (Nigeria), Davido (Nigeria) Aminux (Morocco), Daphne (Cameroon), Davido (Nigeria), Diamond Patnumz (Tanzania), Nasty C (South Africa), Prince Kaybee (South Africa) and Tamer Hiosny (Egypt).

Biggest boy band, Sauti Sol made us proud again for winning the album of the year, ‘Afrikan Sauce’. Other albums that were also battling with Sauti Sol include African Giant (Burna Boy, Chulo Vibes (Timaya), Naked (Nadia Nakai), Omo Charlie Champagne (Simi), Poetic Trance (Aziz Sahmaoui), Umqhele (Sjava) and Wilmer (Patoranking).

Sauti Sol also won The best African Duo/Group/ Band with their hit song Extravaganza which featured Nviiri the storytreller, Kaskazini, Crystal Asige and Bensoul.

They beat Cairokee (Egypt), Charly Na Nina (Rwanda), Jano Band (Ethiopia), Toofan (Togo). WCB Wasafi (Tanzania), Mi Casa (South Africa), Kika Troup (Uganda) and Dream Boyz & Nelson Freita (Angola)

Other winners in the category were Nasty C (Best African Collaboration) and (Best African rapper/lyricist) Tiwa Savage (Best female artist in Western Africa), Joeboy (Best artiste in African pop), 2baba (Best artist in African Contemporary),
