In November last year, Sauti Sol promised fans that they would be releasing a track every month for a year.
“We will be releasing a track every month beginning this Nov for the next 12 months,” read their tweet.
After this promise, they managed to release a slew of hits for a few months before they tapered off into silence.
The band has disclosed that the reason why they have not been releasing songs of late is that they realized that they didn’t have the financial capabilities to make the project possible.
“We took a break because we realized we did not have the required financial muscle to keep up with the releases and push the project to a global scale. We have, however, signed deals with international record labels and from next year we will be back on track,” Bien said during a media briefing.
Soundcity MVP Awards
Though they have not released as many records as they had intended this year, they have been killing it in the awards arena. The group recently bagged 3 nominations at the Soundcity MVP Awards.
Their song with Nyashinski ‘Short n Sweet’ has been nominated for two categories ‘Video of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year.’ The group has also been nominated in the ‘Best Group or Duo’ category.
Their guitarist Polycarp Otieno who also doubles up as a producer recently won the ‘Producer of the Year’ at the Café Ngoma Awards 2018.
