Music fans, industry professionals, artists and exhibitors last week gathered at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, for the ONGEA! 2018 Music Summit.
The four-day event drew artists, associations, bands, booking agents, collective management organisations, digital distributors, educational institutions, media houses, record labels, regulators and technical suppliers from all over Africa.
The event culminated with the annual Mdundo Awards where the most downloaded Kenyan musicians of 2017 were recognized and feted.
The fourth edition of Mdundo awards recognized the most downloaded musicians in Kenya solely based on download statistics on mdundo.com. Previously awarded are artists such as King Kaka, Timmy T Dat, Willy Paul, Sauti Sol, Mercy Masika and many more.
Willy Paul made a comeback on the list this year with the Most Downloaded Single 2017 and the Most Downloaded Gospel Artist 2017 while Mercy Masika bagged the Most Downloaded Female Single.
Timmy Tdat replaced Sauti Sol in the category of ‘Most Downloaded Afro-pop Artist’ and his previous position as the ‘Most Downloaded Hip-Hop Artist’ was taken by Khaligraph Jones.
